Myriad Group announces a Versy business update
ZURICH, Switzerland – 15 July 2015 – Myriad Group AG (SIX Swiss Exchange: MYRN) the company creating and connecting communities across mobile, today announces a business update for Versy, the next evolution of the company’s social messaging service focussing on a content driven experience.
During the first half of 2015 the company has been running channel pilots, initially focussing on the country with the second largest mobile subscriber base in Latin America, Mexico. The results of this pilot programme led the company to the evolution of its Versy strategy announced in June. During the pilot phase there were 50 test channels available for users at the end of Q1. The company is pleased with the early adoption of channel followers, which has picked up significantly in Q2 as the range of channels launched in the Versy portfolio has increased. Driven by successfully attracting international content brands including Warner Music, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Perform Group, Versy now has over 150 live content channels in Latin America. These provide a broad range of compelling content to fuel conversations across both smartphone, and unique to Versy, amongst a significant number of feature-phone users. In Mexico alone, there were 6.1 million channel followers(1) at 30 June 2015. Also, since the launch of Versy in mid-June, messages sent per day rose into the billions.(2)
The results of the company’s testing and early adoption experience demonstrate that providing quality content to attract and retain users will be a key element in the future growth of Versy. To ensure that a world-class user experience is maintained, significant product enhancements are planned for H2 2015. The planned investment in marketing the Versy proposition will be deferred whilst these product features are trialled and tested. As a result, the company is able to report a closing cash balance at 30 June 2015 of USD 51.9m.
Myriad is also announcing that Versy’s addressable users at the end of Q2 were 191 million.(3) The rate of growth has levelled out as we move to a content led proposition where engagement is more important as a prelude to monetisation. Metrics linked to the content driven experience will become much more relevant going forward. As part of this process the company intends to focus on growing its smart phone user base, having originally prioritised feature phone users in 2014 which represent a significant element of the mobile subscriber base in Latin America, where smartphone penetration is still relatively low at 31%.(4)
Stephen Dunford, CEO of Myriad Group AG, commented: “We are pleased with the early success we have seen in the proliferation of channels in our Versy service, where we now have over 150 live content channels in Latin America. This is really driving activity, engagement and retention, demonstrated by the announcement of Versy’s 6.1 million channel followers in Mexico.(1)”
(1) Includes users that follow multiple channels.
